| Description | Moxifloxacin is a fourth-generation synthetic broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It is used against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and to treat bacterial infections associated with bronchitis, sinusitis, and other conditions. Fluoroquinolones stabilize DNA strand breaks created by DNA gyrase (Topo II) and topoisomerase IV by binding to the enzyme-DNA complex. Compared to mammalian DNA gyrase, moxifloxacin has 100 times higher affinity for bacterial DNA gyrase. Can also be used as reference compound. |
