| Description | Marker dye for DNA in acid and neutral media. Methyl green is mainly used as a DNA stain in histochemistry. At low concentrations it binds selectively to AT-rich regions of native DNA. At high concentrations it is present at all available DNA sites. Methyl Green is used as a tracking dye in acid buffers for electrophoresis. It helps differentiate bacteria and is also a tissue stain for nucleoli and mitochondria in tissues. Spectral data: Absorption maxima = 630-635nm. May be used as a pH indicator with a pH range = pH 0.2(yellow) to pH 1.8(blue). |
