| Background | The KIR family consists of transmembrane glycoproteins of the Ig superfamily expressed on natural killer (NK) cells and a subset of human T cells. KIR2DL1 is a receptor on human NK cells for HLA-C alleles. It inhibits the activity of NK cells thus preventing cell lysis. |
