| Background | The LXR receptors (including LXR-_ and LXR-_) bind oxysterols and play key roles in maintaining cholesterol homeostasis in macrophages, primarily by regulating multiple components of the reverse cholesterol transport. They also are potent inhibitors of inflammation and are capable of repressing cytokine and chemokine production by Toll-like receptor (TLR)-activated macrophages. |
