Overview

This kit measures amino acid content rather than the activity of enzymes involved in amino acid metabolism. It uses the color produced by the reaction of amino groups with ninhydrin to quantify amino acids under the assay conditions.

In plants, amino acid content is useful for studying nitrogen metabolism across different conditions and developmental stages, including nitrogen absorption, transport, assimilation, and nutritional status. This kit measures amino acid content in biological samples.

Assay principle

The α-amino group of amino acids reacts with ninhydrin to produce a blue-purple compound with a characteristic absorption peak at 570nm. Amino acid content is calculated by measuring absorbance at 570nm.
