Pyruvate (PA) Content Assay Kit

Representative Bioss biochemical assay kit box and reagent bottles, AK051 shown
Representative biochemical kit packaging (AK051 shown). Labels and components vary by kit.

Overview

This kit measures pyruvate content rather than the activity of enzymes that produce or consume pyruvate. Pyruvate is quantified through a color-forming reaction with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine.

Pyruvate serves as a critical metabolic hub, linking glucose, fatty acid, and amino acid metabolism through acetyl-CoA.

Assay principle

Pyruvate reacts with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine to form pyruvate-2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone, which appears cherry-red in alkaline solution.
