Proline (PRO) Content Assay Kit
Overview
This kit measures proline content rather than the activity of enzymes involved in proline metabolism. Proline is quantified using the colored product formed in its reaction with acidic ninhydrin.
Proline (PRO) is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. Under stress conditions, the proline content in plants increases significantly. The increase in proline reflects stress resistance to some extent, and drought-resistant varieties often accumulate more proline. Therefore, the increase in proline can serve as one of the physiological indicators for stress-resistant breeding.
Assay principle
Proline is extracted with sulfosalicylic acid (SA). After heating, proline reacts with acidic ninhydrin solution to produce a red compound, which is measured at 520 nm.
