Plant Soluble Sugar Content Assay Kit
Overview
This kit measures soluble sugar content rather than the activity of sugar-metabolizing enzymes. It uses anthrone colorimetry to quantify sugars under the assay's heated acidic conditions, rather than identifying each sugar individually.
Soluble sugars are important metabolic substrates and storage compounds in plant tissues. This measurement includes soluble monosaccharides and sugars that are hydrolyzed to reducing monosaccharides under the assay conditions, including sucrose and maltose.
Assay principle
Under strongly acidic heated conditions, soluble sugars react with anthrone to form a colored product. Absorbance at 620 nm is proportional to soluble sugar concentration within the assay range.
