Total Antioxidant Capacity (T-AOC) Assay Kit

Overview

This kit assesses antioxidant capacity—the ability of a sample to reduce the assay's ferric iron complex—rather than the concentration of a single antioxidant or the activity of a specific enzyme. The result reflects the combined reducing capacity measured under the assay conditions.

Total antioxidant capacity reflects the combined activity of enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidant systems. This assay can be used with body fluids, cell or tissue lysates, plant extracts, and antioxidant solutions.

Assay principle

Under acidic conditions, antioxidants reduce Fe³ -TPTZ to blue Fe² -TPTZ. The resulting absorbance at 593 nm⁺ ⁺ reflects total antioxidant capacity.
