HP1 alpha Polyclonal Antibody

$HeLa cells were stained with the Bioss antibody against HP1\u03b1 (Cat. No. bs-53123R) and with DAPI. Cells were fixed with 4% formaldehyde for 10\u2019 and blocked with PBS\/TX-100 containing 5% normal goat serum and 1% BSA. The cells were immunofluorescently labeled with the HP1\u03b1 antibody (left) diluted 1:500 in blocking solution followed by an anti-rabbit antibody conjugated to Alexa488. The middle panel shows staining of the nuclei with DAPI. A merge of the two stainings is shown on the right.$

Background	Component of heterochromatin that recognizes and binds histone H3 tails methylated at 'Lys-9' (H3K9me), leading to epigenetic repression. In contrast, it is excluded from chromatin when 'Tyr-41' of histone H3 is phosphorylated (H3Y41ph). Can interact with lamin-B receptor (LBR). This interaction can contribute to the association of the heterochromatin with the inner nuclear membrane. Involved in the formation of functional kinetochore through interaction with MIS12 complex proteins.
